Toy Gun Marketplace

Toy Gun - Fanner 50 Toy guns are some of the hottest collectible toys today! Demand is very strong, for both cast iron cap guns and cowboy pistols, as well as plastic cowboy and Army toy guns of the 1950s and 1960s.

Probably the most desirable toy guns are the famous Mattel cowboy guns of the late 1950s known as the Fanner 50, with its incredibly realistic Winchester Saddle gun rifle, and the subsequent "Shootin' Shell" line of pistols, rifles, and derringers. These Mattel guns now sell from $100 and up.

Toy Cap Gun - Fanner 50 A number of other leading mainstream toy firms climbed on the junior cowboy bonanza, including the Hubley Manufacturing Co., Kilgore and Marx. The Kenton company had an enormous pre-TV success with its Gene Autry cap guns. By late 1939 it had sold more than 2 million, and it is estimated that by the time Kenton stopped making its Autry guns in late 1951, a total of more than 6 million had been produced.

If you have a pristine example of a Western character gun residing in your attic, it could be worth hundreds of dollars. Here are some classic examples and their estimated market value (remember -- this is a buyer's, not seller's price):
  • Fanner 50, VG, loose with holster: $100, with bullets on belt: $125
  • Shootin' Shell Fanner: MIB with rawhide holster (Frontier set): $250
  • Rare Bat Masterson gun with gold finish with copper-plated revolving cylinder and black stag grips, made by Cannell Mfg. Co.: $300-$500.
  • Gene Autry 1950-52 engraved cast-iron gun -- either nickel finish with orange grips or dark finish with white grips by Kenton: $350-$600.
  • Rare 1950s Cisco Kid double holster set in black and white leather with silver studs and red jewels, Kilgore Ranger guns: $500-$750.
  • Double-holster Davy Crockett 1955 set with rare Leslie Henry 9-inch die-cast guns: $500-$800.
