With Cowboy Action Shooting becoming one of the fastest growing shooting sports in the last few years, the market for western holsters has exploded! The Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) has been the driving force behind the sport's growth, and the demand from people around North America for quality holsters, gun belts and accessories has seen many small manufacturers become large, and new craftsman entering the market. Among the top producers of western cowboy holsters are Mernickle Custom Holsters, Brigade Gunleather, Galco, Kirkpatrick and Bianchi.
Many manufacturers build holsters based on original historical patterns, while other design specifically for Cowboy Action Shooting. Make sure when you check out the holster to find out the features, and how they might affect your shooting. If you're just starting out and haven't bought your equipment yet, you should first try to visit a western shooting match and look at all the holsters used by the people in attendance, asking questions when you'd like to know more about something.
