Growing up in the Chicago area, Karen was educated at Northwestern University and lived in the Midwest and South before settling in California where she and her husband, John, a history professor, live in the hills north of San Diego. Keen interest in her family heritage spawned her research of Doc Holliday and his life on the western frontier. She has combined the new information which she uncovered during her years of research with her extensive family documentation resulting in her much anticipated book, Doc Holliday: A Family Portrait. Karen recently gave up her career as an accountant so that she can devote her time to research and writing. Her work on George Musgrave and the Black Jack gang, co-written with her husband, was published in 2002.
