DISCUSSION GROUP GUIDELINES

Mission Statement: These discussion groups are comprised of Cowboy Actions Shooters, Gunfight Reenactors, Fast Draw Shooters, and those interested in the Old West performing arts from around the world. The purpose of these groups:
1. is to share common interest and opinions related to these pursuits, and also be a communication forum for organizations and clubs.
2. is to be a living proof of how these pursuits develop friendship and "Spirit of the Game" environments.
3. is to be an information junction for those interested in getting started in CAS, Reenacting, or Fast Draw.

Why we ask that posts stay on topic: Please only post messages that directly relate to the discussion forum. History has shown that if these discussion groups are open to all subject matter then we get to the point where there's only a small percentage of posts that are of interest to any individual. Visitors then find themselves scrolling past more and more discussion threads. At that point people lose interest in returning to the board because they find themselves interested in less and less items. Finally you have less people around to discuss items related to the main topic. At that point these discussion group have lost their purpose.

Additionally, these discussion groups operate best when kept below a certain number of posts. Filling up the space with off-topic posts means less room for the posts related to the topic at hand. Again, this means the discussion groups lose their focus and ability to provide information on the topics they were designed to serve.

Advertising Policy: Please do not post blatant advertisements. These discussion groups are paid for by the sponsors that purchase banner ads that appear at the top of the discussion group index pages, and the vendors that purchase links on the main Gunfighter Zone page. Promotion of other businesses is unfair to these sponsors who have stepped up to the task of helping provide these discussion groups. If you would like to find more information on how you can become a sponsor please check out our Links & Banners section.

Selling Gun Stuff in the Discussion Groups: Please do not post messages to sell gun stuff on the Cowboy Action, Reenacting, or Miscellaneous discussion groups. These type of posts can start to take up a lot of room. These boards were not intended for that sort of activity, and there are web sites that offer better exposure for your used guns, holsters and parts. One recommended venue is the CAS City Classifieds. Advertisement of guns or related items will be deleted.

The only exception to the advertising rule is the Fast Draw discussion group. Fast Draw equipment is extremely specialized, and there is no other forum for selling these items, so guns, holsters, targets and other related items are allowed to be sold on that discussion group. However, items not directly related to Fast Draw that are advertised on that group will be deleted.
Note: If you're not sure if an item is related to Fast Draw, it's probably not. Please check the Fast Draw Resource Center for information on Fast Draw equipment.

Deleting Posts: As mentioned above, these discussion groups operate best when the number of posts stays below a certain number. This requires the removal of old discussion threads when they have run their course and are no longer active. After open discussions with discussion group members I've found that most people prefer a lean discussion group. Most of the active members subscribe to the daily e-mail digest (click on the "(Un)Subscribe" link near the top and bottom of each discussion index), or drop by on a daily basis, so manage to post their responses within a day or two. If a discussion thread has been inactive for three or four days it will be deemed to have run its course and will be removed to make room for new discussions. The less active discussion groups will not required deletion as often.

If a large discussion thread has a branch that has become inactive, while another branch has remained active, this inactive branch may be deleted. Also, if a large discussion thread starts to push off the right edge of a page, a logical transition point will be found in the discussion (maybe where the discussion takes a new turn), and the earlier posts will be deleted to keep posts on the main page. These deletions are an attempt to keep the discussion group usable and easy to navigate.

Posts that are off topic, baiting other participants, or discussions that have degraded into non-productive arguing or name calling will be deleted at the discretion of the moderator.

Archiving Posts: Unfortunately we do not have the room to archive all of the tens of thousands of posts that have been made on the Gunfighter Zone discussion groups (that would also be a heck of a lot to search through!!). The moderator of the discussion groups will move highly informative posts to the Archives when noticed, but likely candidates can sometimes be missed. If you notice a well written and informative post please feel free to e-mail me at DiscussionGroups@gunfighter.com to point it out. Please mention the discussion group name, subject topic, and the date and time of the post.

E-mail Policy: The e-mail addresses entered in the posts on the discussion boards, or those used to subscribe to the daily e-mail digests, will not be used by the owner of the Gunfighter Zone to send out spam, or be passed along to anyone else for ANY reason. I have no interest in sending out spam/advertisements to anyone (I hate getting them as much as you do!!).

Handloading Precautions!!! Understand what you are doing and why. Read handbooks and manuals on reloading. Always verify all published data with manufacturers data. Be a safe shooter! Neither the Gunfighter Zone discussion group owner, nor the contributors of reloading info, assumes any liability for accidents or injury from the use or misuse of data mentioned in the discussion groups. Many knowledgeable and experienced people post to this forum, but typographical errors do occur, and your situation may not be identical to that described in the posting. YOU have primary responsibility for your actions.

HAVE FUN, and thanks for taking part!

Thank you to CAS City for the use of some of their policies as a guideline for these ones.
