Civil War Firearms: Their Historical Background, Tactical Use and Modern Collecting and Shooting

The Peacemakers : Arms and Adventure in the American West

The title is a bit misleading as the book is really a coverage of quite a few of the firearms used to conquer/settle the west. There are Indian trade guns, plains rifles, Winchesters and Henrys, military Springfields, Sharps, and Spencers, buffalo rifles of all sorts, Colts, Remingtons, and a whole bunch of other pistols, and shotguns.

This book is chock full of great photographs and includes pictures of firearms owned by famous Indians, lawmen, bandits, mountain men, soldiers, and a variety of other frontiersmen (and women). In addition, there are plenty of shots showing clothing, equipment, leather, and the like (a number of pictures show people wearing two holsters, almost all with pistol butts facing forward).

For those of you who are movie/TV buffs, there are photographs of the firearms and leather of various western movies and shows, which is also pretty neat. - US Scout (Cowboy Action Shooter)
